Rajesh Kumar१४ सितम्बर १९४९ के दिन हिंदी राजभाषा के तौर पर चुनी गई| पंडित जवाहर लाल नेहरू ने इस दिन को हर साल हिंदी दिवस के रूप में मनाये जाने की घोषणा की| इसके जरिये वो इस भाषा के महत्व को पीढ़ी दर पीढ़ी बनाए रखना चाहते थे| महात्मा गाँधी के विचारों में यह एक जन-मानस की भाषा थी| परन्तु बदलते वक़्त में हिंदी की महत्ता अंग्रेजी के सामने कम होती गई|
आज अंग्रेजी बोलने वाले व्यक्तियों को ही पढ़ा लिखा माना जाता है, तथा उन्हें उच्च स्तरीय एवं लायक समझा जाता है| आप चाहे कितने ही विद्वान क्यों न हो, अगर आप अंग्रेजी नहीं बोल सकते तो आप को गँवार घोषित कर दिया जाता है| शायद यही कारण है, कि अंग्रेजी माध्यम के विद्यालयों कि संख्या दिन-प्रतिदिन बढ़ती जा रही है| और हिंदी अप्रिय होती जा रही है|
परन्तु जगत में हिंदी कि अपनी एक अलग पहचान है| विश्व पटल पर सबसे ज्यादा बोली जाने वाली भाषा में हिंदी का स्थान चौथा है| जहाँ भारत, पाश्चात्य संस्कृति के प्रभाव में अंग्रेजी भाषा की ओर झुक रहा है, वहीं दूसरी ओर शांति और पवित्रता की खोज में कई विदेशी हिंदी को अपना रहे है|
इस कविता के जरिये हिंदी स्वं के महत्व को बता रही है, और अपने आस्तित्व को बचाने के लिए पुकार रही है|

हिंदी हूँ मैं, मान कर
ना तू मेरा अब अपमान कर
जननी हूँ मैं, जान हूँ
तेरी जन्मभूमि की शान हूँ|
याद रख तू भूल मत,
तेरे मुख से निकली पहली जज्बात हूँ|
सीख मुझको तू आगे बढ़ा,
हैं क्यों अब शर्मिंदा बता,
जरा ध्यान दे और गौर कर,
है क्या मेरी अब कीमत बता,
सिंधु से जन्मी हूँ मैं,
सनातनी भाषा हूँ|
है समावेश मुझमें कई बोली का,
अपभ्रंश कि मैं बेटी हूँ|
देवनगरी से आई मैं
मैंने रचा इतिहास है|
ब्रज, अवधी, खड़ी-बोली,
मेरे ही तो प्रकार हैं|
भक्ति आंदोलन की नींव हूँ मैं
मैंने सुनाई राम-कृष्णा की दास्तान
तुलसी, मीरा, सूरदास
मेरे ही तो संतान है|
ज्ञान के तुम चक्षु खोलो,
सार ज़िन्दगी का टटोलो,
है अटल ये सत्य तेरा,
मैं ही तेरी वजूद हूँ|

Translation:
India chose Hindi to be its national language on 14th September 1949. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru declared this to be celebrated as ‘Hindi Diwas’ (Hindi Day) from then on. He intended for the generations to come to comprehend the importance of the Hindi language. According to the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Hindi is a people’s language. But, with time, the use of the Hindi language and its significance has decreased owing to the introduction of the English language. Today, people consider those who can speak the English language educated, and place them on a pedestal. No matter how educated one is, if he/she cannot speak in English, people belittle him/her as illiterate.
Maybe, this is one reason why the number of English teaching schools has increased like wildfire. The Hindi language has become unpopular amongst the people today.
But, the world recognizes the Hindi Language with much adoration for it. It is the fourth most spoken language across the globe! While Indians are westernizing to fit in by using the English language, others across other countries are learning Hindi to find peace and purity.
In this poem, the Hindi language expresses its own importance and urges people to not dump it with history. (This is just a translation of the poem, that aims to reach out to those who cannot understand Hindi.)
I am Hindi, honour me
Don’t you dishonour me
I am your mother, I breathed life into you
I am the pride of your nation
Don’t forget, Don’t neglect
I am the first emotion you ever expressed.
You learnt me and flourished ahead
Why are you ashamed of me now?
Introspect & retrospect
Tell me, what is my value now?
Born from Sindhu
I am an ancient language
I am an amalgamation of several other dialects
I am the daughter of ‘Upbhransh’
I hail from Devnagari
I have created a history
I belong to the genre of
Dialects like Bhraj, Awadhi and Khadi
I am the seed that planted spiritual revolutions
And I narrated the mythological tales of Rama and Krishna
Tulsi, Meera, Surdas
Are my offsprings
Open the realms of your knowledge
Find the meaning of your life
This is the unchangeable truth
That I am your identity.
